The man behind the movement
Dr. Jose Rizal (1861–1896) was a Filipino polymath — a physician, writer, linguist, and reformer whose works ignited a national consciousness under Spanish colonial rule.
His novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo exposed colonial abuses with such clarity that they cost him his life. He was executed by firing squad at the age of 35.
For the Daisy Ann Foundation, Rizal is more than a historical figure. He is a model: that words, art, and patient education can be a form of resistance — and that freedom, once imagined, cannot be unlearned.
